Sept. 30 for Eti-Osa bye-election in Lagos. INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed September 30th , 2017 as the day for the conduct of a bye-election to fill the vacant Eti-Osa Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, the commission disclosed that 1.4 million Permanent Voters Card, PVCs, were yet to be collected from it various offices in the state.INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Lagos State, Mr. Sam Olumekun, yesterday, announced the date for the bye-election at a stakeholders’ meeting with the political leaders in the state at the Commission’s office, Yaba.

The House of Assembly seat became vacant barely six weeks ago following the death of Hon Kazeem Alimi, 50, former occupant of the seat who died at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, after a brief illness.

Olumekun disclosed that the date included in the time table was approved by National headquarters after due considering of recommendations presented by the political parties on the vacant seat.

According to him, “Time table has been drawn and we have given them out to the parties to commence activities. The commission will monitor these activities and ensure adherence.”

1.4m unclaimed PVCs

The REC urged the parties to also engage in voter education which should starts with collection of PVC from the commission.

He said, ‘’We have about 1.4 million PVCs that are yet to be collected. We are appealing to political parties to help mobilise and encourage the people in this regard and be part of the voter’s registration.”
